An  ebook can be downloaded in about 5 minutes or less. Most ebooks can be read as PFD files, they have similar options to a printed book or a paper book.Readers can bookmark pages automatically, make notes, highlight passages and save selected text to read at a later stage. Some other ebooks also have  built in dictionaries, font sizes and font styles to choose from.Smarshwords is one of the largest distributors by title count of the independent ebooks to retailers such as Apple,Barnes and Kobo. Not bad at all  for a company that only 24 months ago started with just 140 books by 90 authors. smashwords.Smashwords also gives a platform for new writers to publish their books which can be reviewed, commented on and publishing is done for free by smashwords.Writers no longer have to struggle to get publishers unlike for print, it sometimes takes a while to get books published.

Advantages of using an ebook is that it is easier to navigate through,it saves time when accessing it,saves money as it costs less than a book that is printed, can avoid going to shops, searching the library, home delivery is cut off. The most important point is that as ebooks are electronical it saves a lot of trees whereas in print a lot of trees are used so that we can have a hard copy.

Truth remains weather we like it or not ebooks are here to stay as long as technology keeps growing, and one will only see further  compression of the ebook method in the coming days for the reader's better convinience.
